Architecture: Curious Practice
This heritage weatherboard home now seamlessly transitions into a bold, modern extension, designed for natural light and effortless indoor-outdoor flow. The clients wanted a stronger connection to the backyard, a space that invited entertaining while maintaining a sense of warmth and craftsmanship. The result is a home that balances raw, natural materials—burnished concrete, timber, and FC cladding—while feeling light, open, and highly functional.
Every detail was carefully resolved to maintain alignment and precision. Flush transitions enhance the sense of continuity, while exposed roof rafters were meticulously positioned to meet window and door placements internally and externally. Custom external sliding windows, a unique roof and gutter design, and a pebble drain perimeter demonstrate the level of thought applied. The team even repurposed original hardwood from the subfloor, crafting it into a statement entry door and fly screen—an approach that prioritised sustainability without compromising on design.
