Renovations and Extensions in Newcastle
Where Old Meets New, Every Junction Counts.
Goodwin Vaughan builds architectural renovations and extensions across Newcastle for homeowners, architects and designers who care about how a home is made.
An existing home has its own logic: its rooflines, its proportions, the way light moves through it. Our work is to respect that logic, then build the new with the same precision we bring to every junction, material and finish.
Who We Build For
Homeowners refining a home they love. Perhaps you want more light, a stronger connection to the garden or room for a growing family. We help define a clear, achievable scope from the start, with an eye on how your home will serve you now and for decades to come.
Architects and designers who need their intent protected. We bring buildability input early and resolve details on site, so the home that gets built is the home you drew.
How We Approach the Work
Joining old and new. The difference is in the detail. Where a new roof meets an original pitch, or new cladding meets old brick, alignments must hold and materials must meet cleanly. We resolve these transitions before work begins and check them at multiple stages, so an extension reads as a natural evolution of the home rather than an abrupt addition.
Living through a build. Renovating means building around a home that already has a life. Before work starts, we talk through how the project will affect your household. Once on site, we keep the work organised and you informed, so you always know what is happening next and why.
Transparency, start to finish. Clear cost tracking with budget updates in real time, progress photos and regular meetings on site keep every decision visible. Lou leads planning and client communication; Dan leads the team on site. You will always know who to call.
“Quality workmanship, honest communication, and an effortless building process. We couldn’t be happier.”

Where We Build
Based in Newcastle, we build across Greater Newcastle and the Lower Hunter. If your home is in the region and your project calls for this level of care, we would like to hear about it.
Common Questions
-
Architect designed homes leave very little room for error. Clean lines, flush junctions and exposed materials show every detail, so we resolve each one before it's built and check it as we go. The finished home matches the drawings, not a rough version of them.
-
This is where a renovation succeeds or fails. We study how the original house was built, then work through levels, rooflines and materials so the new work sits naturally against the old. At The Elderman we kept the original brick fireplace at the heart of the home. At The Hill, new cladding meets the original brick chimney.
-
No. If you already have drawings, we review them early for buildability. We flag details that will be hard to build well and suggest practical ways to keep the design intent. If you're earlier in the process, we're happy to talk through your plans.
-
We set a clear, achievable scope during feasibility and budgeting. Once the build starts, you have your own client portal with a constant view of the schedule, the costings for your project and photos of the work done each week. Regular meetings on site mean every decision is made with full visibility.
-
It depends on the scope. Some projects suit staying in place, and others are better built with the house empty. We'll plan it with you early, with safety and your routine in mind.
